In honor of Hispanic Heritage month, Spanish students will provide authentic dishes from various Spanish-speaking countries on Thursday, October 17 during lunch (both first and second lunches). To join in on the festivities, you may purchase tickets on Thursday. You may purchase 2 tickets for $1 (1 food sample = 1 ticket). If you are REALLY hungry, you may purchase the MEGA MUNCHIE PASS (15 tickets) for $5. Some of the proceeds will be going to fund school supplies for a small, rural school in Costa Rica. Come hungry and celebrate Hispanic heritage! ☺

We will also be selling PULSERAS (in English, bracelets) that are uniquely handwoven by artisans in Nicaragua and Guatemala this week during both lunches. Bracelets are $5 and purses are $10. Color the world and empower support these artisans! ☺

Hispanics are the largest ethnic or race minority in the United States as they make up approximately 17% of the population. Spanish is the second most-spoken language in the United States as the total number of Spanish-speakers is around 57 million. 1.2 million Hispanics or Latinos ages 18 and older are veterans of the U.S. armed forces.

Junior or Seniors who want to serve as P.E.P. Mentors this year need to get a packet from Mrs. Wilmes in Guidance!!

Wednesday, October 16 is “College and Career Day” at Heritage Hills High School! Rather than a regular class schedule, students will be involved in a variety of activities to prepare for and learn about the many career options for life after high school! It is important that all students are in attendance all day.

Freshmen will rotate among groups that represent the higher education, training and work options for after high school, Sophomores and Juniors will take the PSAT or ASVAB. Seniors will participate in Senior Service. They will volunteer at assigned locations  and give back to the communities that support them. In the afternoon all students will rotate between the Auditorium to receive some Employability Skills training and the Red Gym for a College and Career Fair.   Schedules are posted in English classrooms and on the glass windows of the Guidance office. Students are responsible for knowing their schedule. ASK if questions.

 

During “College and Career Day” week, students and staff may wear clothing that represents options for education or training. Wear a shirt with a college or company logo, military/camo or a work shirt/uniform!

 

BPA students NEED to get money and membership papers turned in to Mr. Pund or Mrs. Griepenstroh ASAP!

 

The Lincoln Hills Public Library is hosting several events in October for students in 6th -12th grade. Check your school email for upcoming events and times!

 

3 on 3 basketball tournament at Joe Schaffer Park in Tell City on October 26 at 3pm.  For more information or a registration form stop by the office.

Scholarship Opportunity:

Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship  This scholarship provides up to $7,500 per year of college (up to $30,000 total) for top performing Hoosier students who commit to teaching in Indiana for five years after earning their degrees.To qualify, students must either graduate in the highest 20 percent of their high school class or earn a score in the top 20th percentile on the SAT or ACT. Interested students should apply by Nov. 30, 2019 at ScholarTrack.IN.gov.

 

University of Southern Indiana and Indiana University School of Medicine are offering a scholarship opportunity to students interested in the medical field. The application for 2019 B/MD scholarship is now open and the deadline is December 1, 2019.
